The Gryphons women's hockey team has been the No. 1-ranked team in the CIS for the past six, and soon to be seven, weeks. Safe to say, they couldn't have got there without the superb play of their second year goalie Valerie Lamenta. The Montreal native earns Gryphon Athlete of the Week honours after recording yet another shutout this past weekend when her Gryphons won 3-0 in Kingston versus the Queen's Gaels. Lamenta turned away all 21 shots sent her way in the game and now leads the country with a total of six shutouts on the season. In 15 starts this season, Lamenta has won 13 times and has yet to allow more than two goals in a game. The Mechanical Engineering major has put together a stellar 2015-16 campaign and currently leads the country in Goals Against Average (1.01) as well as Save Percentage (.956). With a win over Queen's this past Saturday (Jan. 30), the Gryphons women's hockey team pushed their win streak to six and sit atop the OUA standings, nine points clear of second place Nipissing.
