The two-time defending national champion Gryphons Men's Lacrosse team are currently getting set to defend their titles as they prepare for the upcoming Baggatway Cup (Nov. 6-8). If not for the play of third year Attack Mike Cavanagh, the Gryphons might not even be headed back to the Baggataway Cup. On Saturday (October 31) in the opening round of playoffs against McMaster, Mike Cavanagh scored three goals and assisted on another, helping lead the Gryphons to a hard-fought 6-5 win over the Marauders. With the win, the Gryphons punched their ticket back to the Baggataway Cup.
Mike led all scorers on Saturday, including scoring the Gryphons first goal, as well as the eventual game-winning goal in what was a tightly contested playoff matchup at the Gryphons Soccer Complex. The Peterborough native was also exceptional on the ride, forcing several turnovers as McMaster tried to clear their zone. Cavanagh and the Gryphons now prepare to face the host Bishop's Gaiters at 6pm on Friday, November 6 in the opening game of the 2015 Baggataway Cup.
