On Saturday (Oct. 31) at the University of Waterloo, first year student-athlete Danielle Jossinet took home OUA Rookie of the Year honours while also helping the Gryphons capture the OUA team title at the 2015 OUA Cross Country Championships. Thanks in part to Jossinet, the Gryphons Women's Cross Country team has now won 12 straight OUA titles.
Danielle certainly saved her strongest performance of the season for the perfect time. The highly touted rookie out of Cobourg earned Second Team OUA All-Stars honours by finishing 10th in the overall individual standings after finishing the 6K race with a time of 21:05.2 (minutes:seconds:tenths of a second). Jossinet, who will be one of the favourites to take home CIS Rookie of the Year honours in two week's time, was one of four Gryphon runners to finish in the Top 10 on Saturday, helping the Gryphons extend their OUA record streak of consecutive championships to 12.
You can also expect to hear Danielle Jossinet's name during the 2015-16 Track & Field season as she is set to compete indoors in both the 1,500 and 3,000 metre races. Danielle was an OFSAA medalist in both of those events during her hugely successful high school career. Jossinet and her teammates will now get set to compete in the CIS Cross Country Championships on home soil, as U of G will host the national championships for both Men's and Women's Cross Country on Saturday, November 14.
