The Gryphons entered the 2015-16 season knowing they had one of the top goalies in the conference in senior Stephanie Nehring. Now, the rest of the league is learning that the Gryphons may have two of the top goalies in the league. Second year standout Valerie Lamenta earns Gryphon Athlete of the Week honours after a pair of stellar performances in between the pipes this past weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 24 against Waterloo, Lamenta was brilliant turning away all 30 shots sent her way for her second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the Warriors. Putting up zero's is nothing new for Lamenta. The Montreal, QC native recorded three shutouts in just seven starts as a rookie a year ago. After blanking the Warriors Saturday, Lamenta was once again in good form on Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 win over Brock making 24 saves, including 12 in the final period.
On the season, Lamenta ranks 2nd in the CIS with a .981 save percentage and 4th in the country with a 0.50 G.A.A. in 4 starts.
