Rookie forward Jace Kotsopoulos takes home Gryphon Athlete of the Week honours after scoring a hat trick on Saturday in a 6-1 win over the Brock Badgers. After falling behind 1-0 early on against Brock, the Gryphons would level things up in the 24th minute after Kotsopoulos confidently converted from the penalty spot. With Guelph leading 2-1 early in the second half, Jace would score his second goal of the match, this one coming on a well-struck shot from just outside the 18-yard box. The Burlington native would complete the hat trick moments later in the 59th minute when he once again showed poise beyond his years to make good from the penalty spot. Although he was unable to find the back of the net in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to the defending national champion York Lions, Jace once again put forth a fine effort and solid overall performance.

The rookie striker has burst onto the scene for the Gryphons early on in 2015. He currently sits second in the CIS in goals with five through his first six matches. Thanks in large part to the scoring touch of the first year Economics major, the Gryphons are off to a solid start to the campaign at 3-2-1 (wins, losses, draws). Kotsopoulos and the Gryphons will be in action again on Tuesday, September 22 when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks.
