Third-year forward Kate MacTavish from Waterloo, Ont. played like a seasoned veteran and led the Guelph Gryphons women’s basketball team to a pair of upset victories this past week.
 
On Wednesday the Gryphons defeated the McMaster Marauders 78-75. MacTavish was the game’s leading scorer dropping 21 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Moving on to Saturday versus the CIS No. 7 Laurier Golden Hawks, MacTavish picked up right where she left off against Laurier and powered the Gryphons to a 66-64 win. The Science major scored a career-high and led all scorers with 34 points and eight rebounds, she shot 10-of-16 from the floor and an outstanding 14-of-14 from the free throw line. MacTavish now sits fifth in OUA scoring averaging 18.2 points per game this season.
 
With two crucial wins this past week, the Gryphons improve to 6-10 on the season and sit seventh in the OUA West with six games to go in the regular season. Top six teams make the playoffs.
