Anthony Romaniw, Track & Field
Third-year Anthony Romaniw captured three medals in leading the Guelph Gryphons men’s track & field team to a first-place finish at the 2013 CIS Championships this past weekend in Edmonton.
The Hamilton, Ont. native tallied 21.25 points, the most of any athlete in the competition and was also the only athlete to capture three medals. The Human Kinetics student won gold and broke the school record in the men’s 600m with a time of 1:18.20. He also won gold as a member of the 4x800m relay team, crossing the line in 7:31.62, a full two seconds ahead of the previous school record. In addition he earned a silver medal in the men’s 1000m race (2:26.48).
Romaniw’s win in the 600m race, was the turning point of the meet, putting the Gryphons in flight as they overtook the Windsor Lancers with a fantastic final day to win their third national title in the last six years.
