Gryphon Cross Country Teams Dominate OUA

The University of Guelph men’s and women’s cross-country teams successfully defended their provincial titles in dominating form. The women set the tone for the day sparked by team captain Laura Moulton (Hamilton, ON) who finished in the runner-up position for the third consecutive year. The University of Guelph men’s and women’s cross-country teams successfully defended their provincial titles in dominating form. The women set the tone for the day sparked by team captain Laura Moulton (Hamilton, ON) who finished in the runner-up position for the third consecutive year. OUA Rookie of The Year Rachel Cliff (Vancouver, BC) finished an impressive 4th and was joined by Julia Benisus (Hamilton, ON) in 6th and Erin Sask (Kingston, ON) 7th as OUA All-Stars. Head Coach Dave Scott-Thomas was voted Coach of the Year on the women’s side.

The men joined the women at the top of the podium with an equally dominating performance, led by Steve Koziarski (Mississauga, ON) who captured the individual silver medal. The Gryphons placed all five of their scoring runners in the top seven finishers all of whom garnered OUA All-Star status. Team captain Greg Hutchinson (Lindsay, ON) captured the bronze medal, quickly followed by Brendan Hunt (Brampton, ON) in 4th and last year’s OUA Rookie of the Year Matt Brunsting (Stirling, ON) in 5th place. Guelph’s own Kyle Boorsma was the final scorer for the Gryphons placing an outstanding 7th and joined Cliff as Rookie of The Year. As with the women, Coach Scott-Thomas was awarded Coach of the Year.

On November 11th, the team will complete at the National (CIS) Championships in Quebec City, on the historic Plains of Abraham. The women will attempt to defend their National title.  The men, who took Silver last year, look to capture their first title in four years.

Come and cheer on your Guelph Gryphons!
