The Guelph Gryphons cross country team dominated the OUA Championships sweeping the team and individual titles on Saturday held at the Thames Valley Golf Club in London, Ont.

In the women’s individual event, rookie Lindsay Caron (Cambridge, Ont) led throughout most of the race to pace the Gryphons to the women’s team title. The first-year Biomedical Engineering student, finished with a time of 17:36 in the 5-km race, leading the pack and pacing her team to victory.

Carson was also named OUA Rookie of the Year, League MVP and a First Team All-Star. Carson, won the Gryphon Open earlier this season and is a multiple national team member who competed Pan-Am juniors and the world cross-country champs. She's also a former OFSAA and national champion.

On the men's side, second-year Kyle Boorsma (Guelph, Ont) led the Gryphons finishing with a time of 31:48 to win the men's 10-km race at the OUA Cross Country Championships.

For Boorsma, it was a matter of perfect timing to win the race.

"I just kept grinding it out and stuck with the pack," he said. "I broke away late in the race. I used my threshold training to start running away from the pack. (Queen's runner Braden) Novakowski broke away with me and we worked together to make the breakaway stick."

In windy conditions, they broke away with a two-man pack. Novakowski tried to break away from Boorsma late around a corner, but the Gryphons runner held it off and ended up holding him off and instead took the lead for good to take the victory.
