Our swimming pool temperatures are maintained at a comfortable 80ºF (27ºC) for the GOLD POOL and 85ºF (29ºC) for the RED POOL.

ADULT BEGINNER
Participants will become familiar with the shallow water environment through exploration, enjoyment and safety. Basic propulsion in shallow water will be introduced. Class size: Min. 5, Max. 8.

Participants will increase their awareness of personal safety. Participants will improve their front crawl, as well as develop a back crawl and elementary backstroke. Class size: Min. 5, Max. 8.

ADULT INTERMEDIATE
Participants will increase their endurance as they improve their techniques in front and back crawl. Breaststroke and side stroke will be introduced. Class size: Min. 5, Max. 10.

MASTERS SWIM FITNESS
No Membership Req. A 60 minute coed class held 3 times per week throughout the semester. This fun and fitness activity requires that the participant can swim at least 12 lengths of the pool. A program geared to improve fitness as well as skill level in all competitive strokes and their related starts and turns. Class size: Min 14, Max. 40.

TRIATHLON STROKE
No Membership required. A 120 minute coed class held weekly throughout the semester. Participants will have the opportunity to work on their Freestyle stroke mechanics as well as the fitness component in preparation for their Triathlon season. Class size: Min. 6, Max. 20.

BRONZE CROSS (LSS)
No Membership required. Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training. Students will learn the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding. The introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities, the principles of emergency procedures, teamwork and the use of special equipment will all be covered. Bronze Cross is a pre-requisite for lifeguard training in the National Lifeguard Service (N.L.S.) program. Candidates must possess a valid Bronze Medallion Certification and Emergency First Aid and CPR B Certification. Class size: Min. 8, Max. 16.

BRONZE MEDALLION/EMERGENCY FA CPR B
No Membership Required. Participants will learn how to respond to complex water rescue situations by using physical fitness, decision making and judgement skills. Rescuers learn tows, carries, and release techniques in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Students develop stroke efficiency and endurance. Recent program revisions will result in candidates receiving an Emergency First Aid and CPR B Certification. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for all advanced lifesaving awards. Class size: Min. 8, Max. 16.

BRONZE STAR (LSS)
No Membership required. Bronze Star provides training for your body and your brain. You will become a stronger swimmer. You will learn C.P.R. and practice problem-solving and decision making. This course is designed for the strong swimmer who does not yet meet the minimum age for Bronze Medallion. If you hold a Bronze Star you can take Bronze Medallion regardless of your age. Class size: Min. 8, Max. 16.

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD
No membership required. This 40 hour course fulfills a need for an advanced and recognized training standard for those charged with the safety of all persons in the swimming pool. It is coed and reasonably demanding both physically and intellectually and an individual requires the kind of personality, which allows for cooperative work with a large number of people. Candidates will learn how to supervise swimmers, maintain a facility, control patrons, establish and enforce appropriate rules, educate patrons in the appropriate use of the facility, be skilled in the use of specialized rescue equipment, and to evaluate the facility operation making changes and improvements where necessary. Excellent attendance required. Candidates must possess a valid Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid with CPR C Certification. Late Registration must be approved by the Program Coordinator (519-824-4120 Ext.52220). Class size: Min. 8, Max. 16.

RED CROSS INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION
No Membership Required. This recertification course is designed for current Red Cross Water Safety Instructors. The program will cover lesson content, evaluation skills, teaching techniques Red Cross updates, etc. Prerequisite: Must hold a current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification. If your certification has expired more than 5 years, you must participate in the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Splashback Program. Class Size: Min. 4, Max. 16. Includes 1 class.

ADVANCED INSTRUCTOR/EXAMINER STANDARDS CLINIC
No membership required. This course is designed to prepare candidates to become Bronze Cross Examiners, as well as, prepare them to pursue advanced instructor certifications in areas such as, First Aid Instructors, NLS and AED Instructors. Achievement of Examiner status is dependant in successful completion of co-exams the candidate will be responsible for arranging. Class Size: Min. 6, Max.18. Includes 2 classes.

KAYAK BEGINNER
This course is an introductory level and covers such basics as slipping in and out of the boat, basic strokes, braces, leans and other stabilization tricks, dressing for the river, water safety, accident prevention, and the ever popular roll. No equipment required. Class size: Min. 6, Max. 10.

KAYAK INTERMEDIATE
This intermediate level course recommends that participants be able to execute a roll. Instruction will be given on basic stroke improvement, paddling exercises, intermediate strokes, white water theory, safety and rolling techniques. No equipment required. Class size: Min. 6, Max. 10.

KAYAK OPEN TIME
This is pool time for those who have 'been there and done that' but still want to keep their skills honed between seasons. No equipment required. No instructor is provided. Class size: Min. 6, Max. 10.

SCUBA (N.A.U.I. BASIC)
No Membership req. A weekly 90 minute lecture held in MacKinnon 237, 6:15-7:45 pm followed by a 2 hour pool session from 8-10pm. Attendance at first session is mandatory (this includes students on a waiting list). Students will be required to demonstrate appropriate skills in applied sciences, knowledge of diving activities, equipment, safety & related environment. Course fee included the use of tanks, air fills, regulators and buoyancy compensators during pool sessions. Course fees do not include cost of log book, text book (on reserve in Campus Library), open water orientation, certification, or cost of personal equipment which includes mask, fins, snorkel and weight belt (rental approximate. $45.00, purchase approximate. $250.00). Advice will be given during first class regarding proper selection of personal equipment and details of costs not included. Successful completion of a swimming evaluation (first session) is required for continuation in the course.

SNORKELLING CLINIC
No Membership required. Planning on hitting the beach this Winter? Make sure you are ready to explore the ocean wonders. This short clinic will orient you to the basics of snorkelling. Learn how to properly use a face mask, snorkel and fins while gaining confidence in the water. A definite must before heading south! Includes 1 class.

SPRINGBOARD DIVING (ADULT)
Participants will receive individualized instruction appropriate to their level of expertise. This class is most appropriate for individuals at the beginner to intermediate levels (no previous experience necessary). Class size: Min. 6, Max.8.
